  2. Peer Mentors Mission Statement Peer Mentors provide a strong intellectual and social foundation for incoming students that will enhance their personal and professional growth throughout their education.

  3. Goals of Program • Promote unity among class years • Encourage involvement in clubs and organizations • Provide a support network for entering students • Adjunct to academic advisors and faculty advisors • Mentoring and leadership opportunities for students

  4. What You Can Gain as a Mentor • Improved interpersonal skills • Ability to communicate effectively with different kinds of people • Inspire new students and create a sense of community • Develop and explore your leadership identity • Make new friends and give back

  5. Mentoring Program Events Mentors & Mentees Mentors Only Training in mentoring skills Training in academic regulations and campus resources Career & Peer Mentoring Forum • Ice cream social • Welcome Fest • Bingo and brownies • Trivia night • Bagels after the first exam • Pizza & wings night

  6. What is Expected of Mentors • Contact mentees before start of classes • Make mentees feel welcome and connected • Attendance at training session each semester • Keep in touch with assigned mentees throughout semester • Fill out “Mentor Reports” every month • Attend at least 2 program events

  7. Who We’re Looking For • Desire to welcome new students • Interested in making a difference • Motivated to help others • Get along well with others • Knowledgeable about being successful • People from all different backgrounds, majors, and experiences • Willing to make the commitment to the program

  8. Program Update for 2011 - 2012 • ~ 40 Mentors • You will have at least 2 Mentees • Required attendance at some program events • More training and contact with Mentors

  9. Application Process • Applications will be emailed to all participants tonight • Applications will be competitive

  10. Selection Process • Applications will be reviewed blind by the Coordinators • May have a wait list of Mentors
