  8. State and Community Investment/Benefit • Community Investment: $14 million. • Returns/Benefits to Community include: 1. Government business has a permanency that private industry does not. 2. Wages for approximately 270 positions, Over $7.8 million annually, based on payroll figures for the State Veterans Home in The Dalles which employs 200. 3. Income to region: Approximately $6 will be generated for each dollar spent = $48 million to our local economy per year. 4. Increased income to local businesses. 5. Family living wage jobs averaging nearly $30,000 a year
