  2. Introduction Wheelchair Rugby is an intense, physical team sport played by both male and female athletes who have spinal cord or nerve damage. It is known as a very physical sport as athletes attempt to bring the ball over the opponent’s goal line.

  3. History Wheelchair Rugby was first played in 1977 and at the time it was known as “Murder ball”. It was introduced as a professional sport in the 2000 Sydney Paralympics.

  4. Rules and equipment Court The Wheelchair Rugby competition is played indoors in a normal sized basketball court. Ball The ball is the official size of and weight of a volleyball. The ball weighs at 280 grams and must be white in colour Wheelchair The wheelchairs are light which allows easy movement as well as strength to protect the athlete. Gloves Athletes wear gloves to increase their grip on the ball
