  1. Future Funding Opportunities Purpose of breakout: To discuss future funding opportunities and identify new support mechanisms

Conclusions • Overall funding situation is difficult in current climate • RC panels should have e-Research representatives • e-Science teams should build long-term relationships with research groups • Important to register for information on funding and collaboration opportunities • Eg. Attending roadshows, meetings etc

  3. Further work • Production of templates for inclusion of e-Scientists in proposals • Eg. Inclusion of 6 months Software Developer in a 3 year research programme • Make sure SSI continues to advertise opps • e-Research representatives on panels

  4. What was discussed • Difficult funding position currently • RCs cash limited, FP7 drawing to a close • But industry funding on the up • Funding sources - Research Councils, TSB, European Commission, Charities, Industry, JISC • Involvement in bids driven by end-user communities • How to provide small pieces of support to research groups • Inclusion of effort in bids, use of RAs • Discussed TSB feasibility studies for SMEs • Discussed working on commercial projects and the pros and cons • Discussed Pathways to Impact – in bids being much clearer about long term sustainability • Discussed collaboration and knowledge transfer • Discussed importance of registering on funding body websites and _connect
