  2. History of Committees and How They Work • In the Fortieth Congress in March 1867, Senator Henry B. Anthony of Rhode Island offered a Senate resolution of providing for the creation of a Committee on Appropriations. The Senate Appropriations Committee was formed on March 6, 1867. • Bills are assigned to specific committees based on the relation of the committee. • Example- A bill for agricultural research might be sent to Agricultural, Appropriations, and Budget committees. • Some Committees have members of both the House and Senate.

  3. Why Committees are Important • They aren’t.

  4. Just Kidding • They are the body in Congress that get stuff done(mostly bills) • Every bill that goes through the House and Senate has to be referred to a committee for study and recommendation.
