  3. Apply stockinette to upper and lower portion of arm as shown

  4. Start wrapping cotton at wrist

  5. Continue to hand..

  6. Apply two layers around hand and continue up arm

  7. Tear cotton around thumb

  8. Apply two layers around hand and continue up arm

  9. Wrap tightly and avoid wrinkles in cotton

  10. Apply two layers of cotton to entire arm

  11. Fold upper arm stockinette over cotton

  12. Apply a thumb pad-MOST IMPORTANT PART!!!

  13. Wrap snugly around thumb

  14. Fold stockinette over hand portion of cast

  15. Apply gloves!

  16. Fiberglass must be wet. Either fill a basin with water or use running water from sink.

  17. Remove fiberglass from package

  18. Submerse in water or hold under running water for a few seconds

  19. Begin wrapping at wrist

  20. Wrap once around wrist and proceed to hand

  21. Make a cut to go around thumb

  22. Repeat this step until desired thickness reached (two to three layers)

  23. Continue to roll fiberglass up the arm

  24. Roll fiberglass- DO NOT PULL!

  25. Roll carefully to avoid wrinkles

  26. There should be two to three layers of cast material when finished

  27. Use palms of hands to mold cast while it is drying (about 5 minutes)

  28. Never use fingers as this can dent the cast and cause pressure sores

  29. This is a good way to mold the cast around the hand

  30. Some areas may be rough as shown below

  31. A nail file may be used to smooth rough areas

  32. Scissors may also be used to cut rough areas

  33. Completed cast free of wrinkles or rough areas

  34. No rough areas noticeable

  35. Short Arm Cast Removal

  36. Removal Supplies

  37. Start cutting on top (superior) side of cast

  38. Continue the whole length of cast

  39. Turn arm over and make same cut along entire length of cast (inferior side)

  40. Use Cast Spreaders to open cast.

  41. Tear Cotton and Remove Cast
