Overview and Requirements • General Qualifications • All Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 classroom teachers • According to the National Teacher of the Year Program, a classroom teacher is one who teaches a group of students every day within the confines of the classroom and does not have administrative duties • No minimum years of teaching experience is required • Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Responsibilities • Serves as Oklahoma Ambassador of Teaching • Represents Oklahoma in the National competition
Selection Process State Selection Committee of civic and business leaders from the community Regional Selection Committee of Award-Winning Teachers Selected by District
Portfolio Process • Access blank portfolio online at: <http://www.sde.state.ok.us> Click “Site Index,” then “Teacher of the Year, Process” • Put all materials in a 1-inch or 1 ½-inch 3-ring binder • Supplemental materials (i.e. pictures, newspaper clippings) should not be included. • Use of tabs to divide sections is encouraged. • Allow a local newspaper staff member or English teacher to review prior to submission
