Course Description “This is a course designed to acquaint students with action-based research design. Students will be introduced to the philosophical underpinnings of action-based research. The assumptions of action-based research, as well as ethical concerns, will be discussed. Document analysis, content analysis, interviewing, observation, unobtrusive data collection, site selection, building rapport, collecting field notes, data management, and techniques of writing narrative case studies will be themes of the course.”

1. In what ways did the collaborative teaching model contribute to your learning? “The collaborative teaching model helped me understand the necessary components for successful collaboration. It opened the door for true collaboration … and convinced me that ultimate control was not … best for my students. I have grown this year as an educator and … have found a way to share the responsibility of educating children by … using our personal strengths to better our teaching.”
1. In what ways did the collaborative teaching model contribute to your learning? “I was able to learn various aspects and gain different insights from each professor.”
1. In what ways did the collaborative teaching model contribute to your learning? “It was first a good thing getting back to school as a student after 20 years. The best aspect regarding collaborative teaching was learning from the experiences of fellow adult learners and teachers. Being involved with other people who are in my profession or share the same professional aspirations and [concerns] that I do was very rewarding.“
2. In what ways could the collaborative teaching model have helped you learn more or better? “I can't really say because we had weekly discussions in which the [two instructors] both participated. That was cool and helped out a lot.”
2. In what ways could the collaborative teaching model have helped you learn more or better? “It was confusing to some degree; I wasn't always sure to whom to direct my questions.”
2. In what ways could the collaborative teaching model have helped you learn more or better? “Each teacher gave her input and that was new. Conference calls and other class discussions were very exciting since both teachers were involved.”
3. What strategy(ies) would you suggest for implementing improvements to the collaborative teaching model? “I would suggest demonstration videos that show successful collaboration as well as nonexamples.”
3. What strategy(ies) would you suggest for implementing improvements to the collaborative teaching model? “It is good for the two professors to communicate well with each other as they organize the class.”
3. What strategy(ies) would you suggest for implementing improvements to the collaborative teaching model? “I can't really think of any strategies that would improve the collaborative teaching model. Just make sure that the instructors work closely with each other and the students. Have both instructors involved from the first week and that will insure that there are no misunderstandings or confusion on either the instructors' part or the students'.”
