  1. Jesus Christ Redeemed Us Confirmed in the Faith Series B Lesson 5

  2. Jesus Christ Redeemed Us • Redeem = To buy back, set free

  3. Philippians 2:5-8 5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.   8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himselfand became obedient to death—even death on a cross!

  4. How Did Jesus Redeem Us? He humbled, that is, emptied Himself of the full use of His divine power that was His and fully became a human being.

  5. The Steps of Christ’s Humiliation • conceived • born • suffered • crucified • died • buried

  6. Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.

  7. Isaiah 53:5-6 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

  8. 1 Peter 1:18-19 18For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

  9. 2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

  10. With What Did Jesus Redeem Me? The price Jesus paid to redeem me was His suffering and death as an innocent substitute.

  11. Romans 6:16-23 16Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 18You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness…

  12. Romans 6:16-23 19I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. 20When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! 22But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  13. From What Did Jesus Redeem Me? • From sin’s guilt and slavery

  14. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  15. 2 Timothy 1:10 Christ Jesus…has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

  16. John 11:25-26 25Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

  17. From What Did Jesus Redeem Me? • From sin’s guilt and slavery • From death, so I can now have eternal life

  18. Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

  19. 1 John 3:8 The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.

  20. Hebrews 2:14-15 14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

  21. From What Did Jesus Redeem Me? • From sin’s guilt and slavery • From death, so I can now have eternal life • From the devil’s power, so I am no longer his slave.

  22. Three Enemies of My Soul devil sindeath JESUS DESTROYED THEIR POWER!

  23. Romans 3:23-24 23All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

  24. The Result of Jesus’ Work of Redeeming Me God hasjustifiedme (declared me “Not Guilty”) and all people. This is a gift of God’s grace (undeserved love and mercy).

  25. Luke 19:1-10 1Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. 4So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way…

  26. Luke 19:1-10 5When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." 6So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. 7All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a 'sinner.' " …

  27. Luke 19:1-10 8But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." 9Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

  28. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

  29. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 14For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

  30. 1 Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

  31. Titus 2:14 Christ gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

  32. What Am I Now Free To Do Jesus redeemed me to set me free for a life of serving Him.
