NHAI to Upgrade the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway into a Six-Lane Road With the upgradation of highways and the highway operations all across the country, the National Highways Authority of India is implementing ways to improve every commuter’s journey experience. The recent updates from this autonomous organisation stated that they are going to soon upgrade the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway to a six-lane road to make the traffic streamlined and to avoid congestion on this busy highway. In the latest update, the authorities from the National Highways Authority of India claimed that they are working to improve the issues concerning the traffic congestion on the Mysuru- Bengaluru highway by converting it to a six-lane road. This is not the only proposition that NHAI has in mind for this concerned highway. They are also going to build a number of bypass roads at several stops like Bidadi, Maddur, Mandya, Channapatna, Ramanagara, and Srirangapatna which will, in turn, decongest the overwhelming traffic on these busy roads and highways. A recent press release made by NHAI stated that the organisation has taken up this project and the progress of this work is going to take place in two distinct phases. This will ensure that the entire highway isn’t non-functional all at once and that the work on these highways won’t cause abrupt hamper to the daily highway users. As per the reports, the estimated cost has been divided into two sections based on the stretch of road that they are going to work on. The first stretch of 56 km between Bengaluru and Nidagatta and is going to cost Rs. 34.47 crore. The second stretch is 61 km long, from Nidagatta to Mysuru and will cost Rs. 27.65 crore. A Letter of Award (LoA) from NHAI to the assigned construction company has been issued for the development of the highway. This LoA has been awarded to the popular construction company Dilip Buildcon Ltd. for the necessary upgrades to both of the highways stretches under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). In order to stand true to the designation title of “full access controlled facility”, there are ongoing provisions of building service roads along both sides of the highway. This specific highway upgrade project is also focusing on constructing bypass roads to a few of the adjoining towns of the Mysuru-Bengaluru national highway. Some of these include the roads to Bidadi (6.9 km), Maddur (4.4 km), Mandya (10 km) and Srirangapatna (8.2 km) and a few others to add. It is also focused on the construction of nine major bridges, with their lengths ranging from 75 to 300 m, and over 400 minor bridges for easy diversions. Exempting the confirmation made by NHAI, even the Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi confirmed the project, stating that the 117 km Mysuru-Bengaluru highway will soon be expanded into a six-lane highway for a safer and smoother journey.
