Kindergarten and Grade 3 Project Linus

1. Kindergarten and Grade 3Project Linus Students in Ms. Crockett’s Kindergarten classroom and students in Mrs. Murphy’s Grade 3 classroom partnered to make blankets for Project Linus in March. They viewed a video of Project Linus to learn about what the organization does and why blankets are needed. Grade 3 students applied math skills as they measured and cut the fleece, and Kindergarten students worked to improve fine motor skills as they tied knots at the edges of the fleece. Both classes applied their understanding of the character trait compassion and the importance of teamwork as an interpersonal skill. Blankets were presented to Laurie Scott, the Project Linus coordinator for the Penobscot region. Before, during, and after the project, students engaged in group discussions and writing activities designed to help them reflect on their work.
