  1. RF Gun Design, Status and Plans Gun to be fabricated at SLAC Gun RF design complete Gun Mechanical design underway 120 Hz heat calculations ongoing Schedule and plan

  2. Gun Fabrication at SLAC BCR completed 2/3/05 Resources: SLAC resources were not available when the WBS planning was done. They are now. Cost: The projected cost is close to that budgeted, uses SLAC personnel. Schedule risk: In-house design and fabrication can commence immediately. Technical risk: In-house fabrication uses S-Band and X-Band fabrication expertise at SLAC. Oversight is also improved.

  3. Gun RF design complete LCLS Tech note 05-3 published “RF Design of the LCLS Gun”, C. Limborg, et al. Presented at LCLS Week, 1/26/05 Improved 0- mode separation, Dual RF feed, Long/short RF pulse …

  4. RF Gun Dual Feed Input RF Design Phase match held by mechanical tolerances.

  5. RF Gun Mechanical design

  6. RF Gun Fabrication and Testing Schedule

  7. RF Gun Milestones Mechanical engineering – ongoing Detailed design begins – 5/1 (should be able to start earlier) Final Design Review 9/16/05 Fabrication complete 5/5/06 Begin hot test design 10/1/05 Hot test complete 6/30/06 Beamline ready for installation mid-06

  8. RF Gun System Outstanding Issues Gun hot testing before installation, Where, When, What? Circulator, or no Circulator, on RF feed. The added complexity of a circulator may be unnecessary. RF delay from the klystron to the gun and/or RF pulse shaping may be sufficient. Leave space for a circulator should one become necessary. Supports, possible active support for the gun solenoid. Alignment tolerances may be too tight for conventional installation. Cathode QE maintenance and operation cycle.
