  3. Born at home in Chadd’s Ford, Pennsylvania, in 1917, the youngest of five children • 100% home schooled • Received all of his art training from his father, N.C. Wyeth, a famous illustrator • First one-man exhibition held at a major • New York gallery, in 1937 (age 20) • Variously identified as a realist, an • abstractionist, and a regionalist

Married his wife, Betsy, in 1940 and had two sons, Nicholas and James (Jamie) • Deeply affected by the death of his father in a tragic car/train accident (1945) • Spent his entire career painting in two locations, Pennsylvania and Maine • Influenced by artists such as Winslow Homer and Edward Hopper • Died in his sleep, January 2009 (age 92)
