  2. Life Member Requirements • Age 65, plus 35 years of membership • Total equals 100 or more • Automatic transition • Permanent gold membership card next year

Life Member Benefits • No IEEE member dues or assessments • Free basic society memberships after 5 years • Semiannual Life Member Newsletter • Reduced registration fees for IEEE technical conferences • Technical tour participation • Panama Canal first • UK & Scotland this year • Tokyo planned for 2013

  4. Section Benefits • Volunteers with extensive experience who may have time for section activities • Many LMs have been long-time technical society members • May assist in section Excoms, projects or conferences • Organize local meetings for IEEE members

  5. Life Member Fund • Supports projects dealing with: • Education • History • Humanitarian goals • Community outreach • Examples: • Small Radio Telescope at museum • Transcripts at National Electronics Museum • Milestones of electrical engineering

  7. Grant Applications 3X/Year • See www.ieee.org/lmc for information and applications • Grants funded by donations from Life Members (there are over 25,000 of them) • Typically 15-20 grants per year, awards evaluated by a committee of the IEEE Foundation

  8. Incentives to Donate • One time: Life Member pin for $50 donation • Each year: a pewter coaster commemorating an electrical engineering milestone, for $100 or more • Telstar • Panama Canal • Bullet Train • ENIAC
