  5. Aerobic Cellular Respiration • Aerobic conversion of chemical energy harvested from food to ATP • Aerobic • In cristae of mitochondria • 24+ steps • Creates 36-38 ATP, h20, co2, heat • Glucose oxidation • Requires oxygen, produces co2

  7. Glycolysis • 1st step in Aerobic respiration • Occurs in all organisms • Takes place in cytoplasm • Needs activation energy Investment • 2 ATP • Reduces NAD+ to NADH (store E) • Breaks down glucose Net 2 ATP produced, 2 nadh

  8. Krebs Cycle • Aka Citric Acid Cycle • 2nd step in aerobic respiration • Occurs in the mitochondria • Uses the products of glycolysis (2 Pyruvic acid) • Produces co2 as waste product • Produces 2 atp, 6 NADH & 2 Fadh2 • energy harvest

  9. Electron Transport Chain • 3rd stage in aerobic respiration • Occurs in cristae of mitochondria • Use energy from glycolysis & krebs cycle (nadh from glycolysis & nadh/ fadh2 from krebs cycle) • Creates h+ gradient
