  1. BioEarth– EconomicsUpdate: December 2, 2011 Michael Brady, Assistant Professor, WSU Yong Chen, Assistant Professor, OSU Jon Yoder, Associate Professor, WSU Jadrian Wooten, Graduate Student, WSU

  2. Overview of Progress • August 2011-Present • Development of partial equilibrium economic model of the regional agriculture economy written in GAMS®. • Base model development underway • Need to start working with other modeling teams to develop plan for one and two-way model integration of GAMS Economic Model and other models.

  3. Near term improvements (Present – March 2012) • Temporal disaggregation – disaggregate resource constraints and production function into monthly time steps. • Spatial disaggregation – disaggregate the Columbia River Basin into sub-regions • Watersheds • Crop group disaggregation • Stochastic version

  4. Medium term improvements (March 2012-February 2013) • Convert from partial equilibrium to general equilibrium model by developing a CGE-I/O version • CGE = Computable General Equilibrium • I/O = Input/Output Model

  5. Economic Model 2 initial development (March 2012-February 2013) • The GAMS based model will probably only be used for one or two way model interactions. • In Year 2 start development of economic model that could be fully coupled to other models. • Grid cell based to match the spatial resolution of other models. • Plan for now is to develop the model in Matlab.
