Guard Cells Function: to help regulate the rate of transpiration by opening and closing the stomata which results in a decrease in the loss of water transpiration: process of moisture passing through a plant from its roots to small pores on the underside of its leaves Important Organelles: Central vacuoles Why they are important : Vacuoles in plant cells regulate turgor pressure. Turgor pressure plays a in role in the opening and closing of the stomata pore. The pore is actually controlled by changes in the turgor pressure of the two guard cells. This pressure changes when the amounts of ions and sugars that come into the vacuole changes. Turgor pressure: the main pressure of the cell contents against the cell wall in plant cells
