  2. The Greek Root Bio: “life”

  3. abiogenesis(n): spontaneous generation (development of life from lifeless matter). VIDEO Some people believe in “The Big Bang Theory” which is based on abiogenesis.

  4. Amphibious (adj): Able to live on both land and water. Many people wonder what is the difference between amphibians and reptiles. VIDEO

  5. Biocidal (adj): Products that are destructive to life or living things. Examples: Lysol®, Pinesol®, Mr. Clean®, Clorox® Bleach .

  6. biodegradable(adj): Capable of being readily decomposed into harmless substances by microorganisms. VIDEO

  7. symbiosis(n): Living together in mutually helpful association of two dissimilar organisms. Examples: rhinos and white birds; sharks and pilot fish VIDEO

  8. biota(n): Plants or animals living in a specific region or a specific time period. Example: plant life during the Mesolithic era.

  9. Biopsy (n): Diagnostic examination of a piece of tissue from the living body. • Example: liver, lung, lymph nodes all may require a biopsy to determine the spread of cancer.

  10. autobiography(n) Story of a person’s life written by that person.

  11. Biography(n): Story of a person’s life written by someone other than themselves. VIDEO The Biography Channel is an excellent source to learn about famous people’s lives.
