  1. Posting a Course on iTunes U Courses for Credit on Montana Office of Public Instruction site

Create Course • Create content in PowerPoint, Keynote or a Podcast using Camtasia or Screen Flow (for MAC users). • Develop slides with limited words; only key points. • Add graphics or images to cue content. • Record notes with the voice function keeping to 2 minutes or less per slide. • Create syllabus, course assignments, handouts or workbook with more specific information for participants. • Slides and workbook can be divided into segments to better fit the content.

  3. Preparing to Post • Save the PowerPoint in Keynote if not already there. • Build any animation or effects • Save as Keynote Presentation • Export to Quick Time for audio to be included • Set seconds between slides and after builds • 2 seconds between slides and after builds can be used • Final product will be available for iPads and iPhones only.

  4. OPI Contact • Contact Steve Meredith, the server administrator, at OPI smeredith@mt.gov • He sets up the courses on the hosted account of Montana Office of Public Instruction on iTunes University. • Course can be tracked for OPI renewal units, CEUs, for participants. • You will need an Apple ID account to access the page. Go to My Apple ID to create one.

  5. iTunes U Getting Started • Log in to iTunes U Course Manager • Prompt for information about yourself to create an instructor profile. • Dashboard will appear to create a new course. • Click on Create New Course. • New Course Settings screen will appear to enter information about the course.

New Course Settings • Your Course name and short name if you wish. • Example: Check In, Check Out; CICO • Institution: MT OPI • Department: MBI • Category: Teaching & Learning • Subcategory: optional • Level: Professional/Vocational • Language: English • Description: Create a paragraph about your course.

  7. New Course Settings (cont.) • Course Type: Self-Paced • Licensing: Attribution • Save • Dashboard will appear again. • Select the course to edit.

  8. Posting the Course • Title: enter for each segment of your course. • Example: Module 1, Introduction, Syllabus, etc. • Topic: enter the topic for that segment • Description: Write a brief description of the content in the segment • Materials: Upload the materials, assignments, videos, etc. for each segment • New pages: can be added if topics don’t fit in the Overview pages

  9. Preview the Course • Preview your course on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch before sharing the course to check the appearance and functions. • Preview by using the shortcut link from your iOS device.

  10. Share Course • Click on Share Course (after preview and edits) • Contact Steve Meredith again to affiliate your account with the MT OPI Institution site. • Publish in the iTunes U Catalog: go to Course Settings page, click on Submit course to iTunes U catalog • Share the shortcut link with potential or interested schools. • Share the shortcut link with the Technology workgroup to be posted on the OPI/MBI website.
