  2. Smoke Fired Ceramics By: Sheila Marie Boyce About the Artist: Since year 2000 all starting at age 50 the well known Sheila Boyce was a professional ceramic maker. Her specialization was to make burnished and smoke fired sculptural ceramics. Few years later, her work was displayed in galleries all over New York and nationally. She was finally seen as a professional member of the Craft potters Association. I chose Sheila Boyce, because personally I love the way her artworks turn out to be. Throughout my presentation you will see five o many smoke fired ceramics she has made throughout her life.

  3. Simple Dimple SIMPLE DIMPLE The simple dimple was made in 2001. They were made in two different sizes. Large sculptural burnished and smoke-fire. They are made using a mixture of hand building and smoke-firing techniques. This burnishing process gives the form a smooth and softer feel than you are used getting from glazes. An influence in her life was the people that helped her in the workshops she attended. This work was interpreted by the different things she got to see around. Just something different and original.

  4. This work, was also made on 2001. Its materials were clay and a decorative slip made in three sizes, 27 cm., 39 cm., and 50cm. diameter. Available in black or white forms using a mixture of hand building and smoke –firing techniques. Onion Dimple Her influence in this work would be Jane Perryman who was a big help to her in one of the workshops. This work was made by the same use of the simple dimple. But to her the difference was the different kind of interesting designs her head could think of.

  5. Eroisons Sheila’s influence in Erosions was just the imagination she had to create something original from the feelings she gets in the beaches on cold and windy days. This artwork was also created in 2001 in three sizes. With tile material, clay and decorative slip. A large sculptural, burnished and smoke-fired form. Applying the surface decoration and colour through, gives the unique dimension to the work. Erosions was based on all the spontaneous designs textures and forms from her mind.

  6. Ripple Disk The ripple disk was first made in the year 2001. its materials used were tile material, clay and decorations slip with a 50cm. diameter. Available in colors black or white. Each form is unique by the decoration and colour the surface receives. This was influenced from just nature’s designs and from the beaches of the British Isles. The different colors and shapes to the weather or light of her visibility.

  7. 3-D ceramic object created in 2001. As well as the others it was a large burnished and smoke-fired form. Made by the mixture of the hand building and press moulding techniques. Ripple Platter Her influence in this work was the sense of discovery in creating or finding a pattern that will not be there forever. This art work was interpreted by the tide impressions in the sand that are there for a period of time.

  9. This project will be made by a pinch construction technique. I was inspired by Sheila’s work to create this work because of her difference and spontaneous ideas.

  10. To accomplish this work I would need to use the coil construction technique. Sheila Boyce inspired me with her work to do this because her ideas are really different and unique.
