  11. Gaining a Transmitter Number First, in the drop down for “Provider Option” choose Transmitter. Note: If you do not want your firm information made public on the IRS website, select the dot that says No and click Save, then Next. Next, in the drop down for “For Profit or Not for Profit Business Activity” choose For Profit and then click Add.

  12. Gaining a Transmitter Number You will now be on the e-File Application: Form(s) page (shown here to the left). Below your Electronic Return Originator forms, use the “Provider Option” drop down menu to again choose Transmitter. Note:*You will not need to choose For Profit again, just wait a few minutes to let the website process until the forms are shown.

  13. Gaining a Transmitter Number You will now be shown a “Returns/Form Type” list.

  14. Gaining a Transmitter Number Check all of the boxes that apply to your office. *It is a good idea to at least match the forms you have selected for your ERO, if you are unsure, it does not hurt to check all of them. • We recommend checking both the EMS & the MEF boxes, since the IRS is in the process of switching formats. When selecting them for the first form, the boxes will already be checked for the other forms. • If you wish to do extensions you must check the box for ETD. • After you check each box, the website will take a few moments to process, so wait until “processing” disappears from the upper right-hand side of the screen before you select the next box.

  15. Gaining a Transmitter Number Once you are done selecting forms you will select Add (circled below in red) and scroll up to see that the forms are added for the transmitter right below those listed for the ERO. Now click Save (circled in yellow) and then select the e-file application Menu Page (Blue) button.

  16. Gaining a Transmitter Number From the e-file application Menu Page (left) choose the Application Summary link. You will be shown the Application Summary (below).

  17. Gaining a Transmitter Number Verify that Transmitter has a status of Applied with a date and that the forms you chose are listed in that section. When you have been issued the ETIN, the number will show up in the Transmitter area along with an EMS Login ID. The status will be accepted. Choose the e-file application Menu Page button again. Be sure to make a note of the tracking number (in case you don’t get your EMS password letter and you have to give the tracking number to the IRS). We encourage clients to print this page.

  18. Gaining a Transmitter Number On the e-file application Menu Page choose the Application Submission link.

  19. Gaining a Transmitter Number Enter the PIN number you created when setting up your e-Services Account and click Submit.

  20. Gaining a Transmitter Number You will now be asked to add comments. In the comments section type “Add being a transmitter.” and click OK.

  21. Gaining a Transmitter Number • You will be brought to the final page stating that your application has been submitted.
