  1. NAVIGATING THROUGH THE SCREENS IN THE ONLINE WORK-BASED LEARNING DATABASE

  2. This presentation will focus on navigating through the database screens.

  3. Sign in Main Menu This presentation will lead you through the flow of the screens in the Online WBL Database.

  4. Once you have a username and password, you will go to https:// masswbl.org to sign in.

  5. Each time you sign in, you’ll see a “Welcome” screen that will welcome you by name and show you any announcements about what’s new in the database. Read the announcements as needed and then click the button to continue.

  6. THIS is the menu screen you see if you have a program staff account. Once you sign in, you will see your menu screen. From the menu screen you can start working on Work-Based Learning Plans and Placement information.

  7. THIS is the menu screen you see if you have an employer or intern account. If you are an employer or intern, you will see fewer details than in the staff accounts, since as an employer or intern, you do not need the full placement screen or the Reports/Admin menu.

  8. Records for the participants you work with will be listed on the menu page. You can open an existing record or start a new one. You can start with the WBL Plan button to get a a shorter version of the header/placement form or the Placement Screen button which has a more detailed version of the placement info. If you are program staff responsible for reporting placement details, use the Placement Screen.

  9. Notice other options on this page, including: The button to go straight to the “Reviews” page when you are doing WBLP Performance Reviews.  The “Reports/Admin” button opens the report menu.  With “My Account” you can change your sign-in details at any time.  Use “Signout” at the top of any screen to sign out … very important for security of the database!

  10. Notice that you can customize the records shown and the sort order on your menu page.

  11. This is the Placement Screen … the first step for most WBLPs. The presentation “Using the Placement Screen provides details about this screen.

  12. Once you have finished filling in the placement screen, click SAVE Next, you can: 1.) Click the button for STEP 2 – JOB DESCRIPTION AND FOUNDATION SKILLS to continue on to the next part of the WBLP. 2.) Or click the NEW PLACEMENT button to enter placement information for another participant. 3.) Or go to the bottom of the screen and click the button to create a COPY of the current screen (for another participant with a similar job) 4.) Or use the GO TO button at the bottom of the screen to go to the placement screen for a different participant. 5.) Or return to the MENU.

  16. A special feature on the “Reviews” screen: click the gray text next to each Foundation Skill to open the optional rubric worksheet. The rubric worksheet provides a checklist to help you think about performance ratings for the WBLP. Check one or more boxes that best describe the participant’s work performance and click the button to view a suggested rating. Click the gray text to close the worksheet. You can use that rating if you wish in the performance review for that skill. Many people also borrow text from the rubric worksheet to help them write goals and comments.

  17. Notice that the navigation from screen to screen is flexible. You can use the buttons along the top of the screens to navigate from one screen to another in whatever order you wish. Staff, employers and interns can share the WBLP and each can complete different aspects as desired.

  18. When you are working on job descriptions and career/workplace specific skills, you get ideas, inspiration, and actual text from the Bank of Sample Job Descriptions and the Bank of Skills and Tasks.

  19. For example: open the bank of skills and tasks…. Use the dropdown buttons to search for examples of “Computer Technology” in “All Regions.” If you see an example that you like, you can click the “Choose Skill” button to use that skill and description in the WBLP you are working on.
