Received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and one out of only eight Distinguished Service Crosses awarded to Chemical Corps soldiers during World War II. • A Company 81st Chemical Mortar Battalion: Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Company Commander (1944) • Considered the most courageous and decorated individual in the battalion. • Made the ultimate sacrifice, saving the lives of others while forfeiting his own.
