  2. Types of samples to collect Budsticks • Collect from the end of January until bud break • About 8” at the base of the 1-year-old wood • One stick from each scaffold or symptomatic limb

  3. Types of samples to collect Flower & leaf buds • Bud swell to flower bud popcorn stage • Six buds in total • Collect from all major limbs and branches

  4. Types of samples to collect Leaves • Collect 2 weeks after full bloom until the end of June • Collect the first leaves that emerge in spring (oldest) • Collect six leaves in total from each tree • Collect from all major scaffold limbs including any symptomatic limbs

  5. Collect samples from all major limbs • Virus distribution is erratic, particularly with recent infections • Insure that part of each sample is collected from symptomatic shoots or from each major limb

  6. Ship samples in ziplock bags • Seal samples in ziplock bags (don’t add extra moisture) • Label bag (tree, row, grower, GPS) • Include contact information • Keep out of direct sun • Keep cool (40F), but don’t freeze • Overnight delivery to WSU ELISA Lab (early to mid-week)
