  2. Was GM Really the World’s Largest Automaker in 2011? General Motors reported selling 9.03 million vehicles in 2011, yet according to some industry analysts, this figure is inflated. GM’s sales figures include 1.2 million cars sold under the Wuling brand in China. Because GM is only a minority shareholder in Wuling, some argue GM only sold 7.8 million cars in 2011, which would make GM smaller than VW, Nissan/Renault, and Toyota.
