  2. Second Language Acquisition and STARTALK Session Goals • Explore how SLA research findings can inform best practices in STARTALK programs • Relate concepts of SLA to standards-based World Language and Culture Education • Frame research questions for further study and identify how STARTALK can contribute to the knowledge base in the area of teaching and learning of less-commonly taught languages

  3. GROUP 1 How does Second Language Acquisition (SLA) Research inform best practices that lead to learner performance of the following standard? Identify research findings in general terms and/or provide citations. Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions and exchange opinions. Save your response as a PowerPoint presentation on the flash drive provided for your group. You will have three minutes to share your presentation in a whole group format.

  4. GROUP2 How does Second Language Acquisition (SLA) Research inform best practices that lead to learner performance of the following standard? Identify research findings in general terms and/or provide citations. Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics. Save your response as a PowerPoint presentation on the flash drive provided for your group. You will have three minutes to share your presentation in a whole group format.

  9. Second Language Acquisition and STARTALK Process for Activity II •Divide participants into groups • Assign group tasks • Explain process for recording and sharing group findings

  10. GROUP 1 What do we still need to know? What are appropriate research questions we need to pursue? How can we as a STARTALK community contribute to the body of SLA research that is grounded in less-commonly-taught languages? How can data from STARTALK inform best practices that lead to learner attainment of the following standard? Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions and exchange opinions. Save your response as a PowerPoint presentation on the flash drive provided for your group. You will have three minutes to share your presentation in a whole group format.
