  2. Discuss Scene 1 • Review study guide questions and others • Foreshadowing – Building Suspense • What is to come? • Significant change occurs in this part – concerns Oedipus – what is it? Why does it matter? • Learning Target: • I can interpret what each character says. • I can draw conclusions about the motivation and relationships for characters and among characters.

Scene 2, Ode 2 • Groups – Read aloud Scene 2 and work together on questions. • Pay attention • Help your group • Keep up • Check with me when finished with Scene and questions. • Learning Targets: • I understand what ideas the author is communicating through the dialogue • I can explain examples of irony from the scene.

  5. Tuesday –Opening – Journal 4 • Journal 4 - Please answer in a paragraph. • Sophocles portrays Oedipus as a complex ruler with many conflicting traits. Do you think a complex personality is likely to prove an advantage or a liability for a leader? Explain your answer. • Please set out page 13 grammar for me to check. • If you finish before we move on, finish questions 13. Look over answers.

  8. Grammar – Wrap up Sentence Errors • Correct page 13 • Do and Correct page 14 and 15. • Frag – incomplete sentence • RS – two fused sentences without any punctuation • CS – two fused sentences joined with just a comma

  9. Wednesday: Grammar Opening Please write a correct version of it. • The students were excited for the assembly, it was the first of the year, and it was Homecoming. • After you are finished, please turn in Study Guide from Part 1 into my basket and prepare for quiz.

  10. QUIZ • Please separate – use a divider or go to your own table. You may also choose to sit on the floor where I have placed pillows and a clipboard. • The quizzes are short. You will have a scantron and a short answer part you need to answer on back of quiz. When you are finished, turn in on my smartcartAND continue reading the play.

  15. Friday - Opening • Respond to this prompt – write at least 2/3 of a page. • The state of Michigan prohibits the start of K-12 schools from starting before Labor Day. The main reason behind it was for tourism – to promote it through the Labor Day Holiday. Many states around us like Ohio and Indiana and some further away like Texas and Florida start school in mid-August. Their position is starting after Labor Day was based on an agricultural society, which we are not any longer, and getting out earlier, the end of May or early in June allows students to access jobs and family’s to have more of the month of June since sports start up in August even is schools do not. • Do you believe our legislature did the best thing for our state in making it mandatory to start after Labor Day or do you believe starting earlier would make more sense for our state? Explain and Defend your answer.

  17. Scene 4, Ode 4, Exodos • Read aloud Ode 4 • Q and A on both • Read aloud the Exodos – what do you expect? Why? • How has Oedipus changed? • Consider your circle of influence – what will you have to add on Monday? • Learning Target: I understand how Sophocles created suspense, used foreshadowing and irony, and how he used the changing relationships to create the tragedy.
