  7. Take the www approach • Who are they talking to online? • What are they doing online? • Where are they going online?

  9. Safe: don’t share information Meeting: don’t meet up with anyone Accepting: be careful accepting things Reliable: not everything is true Tell: talk to each other!

Helpful hints • Teach them not to share private information including passwords • Do not meet up with people you befriend online • Encourage openness and provide informal opportunities to talk about online activity • Keep consoles, computers etc in a place where you can see what’s happening • Disable or cover webcams to avoid accidental sharing of images • Link children’s email addresses to yours so you receive a copy of their emails • Set up parental controls/ filters on TV, Apple devices, YouTube and online watching • Get virus protection • Set rules and agree boundaries: agree as a family about time to be spent online(including mobile phone use) • Install parental protection apps (alerts you if they try to access a blocked site, keeps records of messages and set times that they can use it)

  12. Good ideas for gaming • Monitor use of games • One hour is recommended by an Oxford University study • Do NOT buy underage games • Give a variety of entertainment, gaming is one form of entertainment • Observe their behaviour for any changes
