  1. Oral to Written Tradition

  2. Life and Teaching • What happened during the lifetime of Jesus? • Miracles, Parables, Death and Resurrection • These things changed history and began the Christian churches. • However, many people did not like JC’s message • Chief Priests, Scribes, and Elders

  3. Post-Resurrection Apostles and disciples proclaimed what they had seen and experienced, through the Mediterranean. Many became believers of Jesus through the apostles and disciples evangelization.

  4. Forms of Preaching the Gospel • For those who did not witness: • Given the message of JC’s life, Passion, Death, and Resurrection, and Ascension • Most important message was the proclamation • This included miracles and parables of His ministry • Used OT to show how JC fulfilled them

  5. Forms of Preaching the Gospel • For those who had accepted Jesus: • The Teaching • This reinforced the living message with the Proclamation • Live a more Christ-Centered life

  6. Forms of Preaching the Gospel • Celebrating the Eucharist: • Helped to preserve scripture and the traditions • Christian Worship • recalled key events of JC’s life • Christian Worship helped to sustain people’s faith as they were being persecuted.

  7. Written Proclamation People believed that Christ would come back in their lifetime As witnesses of JC began to die they realized that the second coming of Christ was imminent They began to preserve the words and life of Christ in written form This left it open to interpretation, omission, and distortions. Formal records were needed to tell a more accurate account of Christ.
