  2. Problem

  3. Hypothesis • More of us believe that water will enter the cup when it is placed in the water than those who believe that water will not enter the cup. • How can we tell? The paper towel will be wet if it enters the cup. The paper towel will be dry if water does not enter the cup.

  4. Materials • Plastic cups • Paper towels • Bowls of water

  5. Procedure • First we will take the paper towel and bunch it up into the bottom of the plastic cup. • Next we will place the cup upside down and straight into the bowl of water. • Last we will take the plastic cup straight out of the water.

  8. Results • The water did not go inside the glass because the paper towel is dry.

  9. Conclusion • If water does not go into the cup then what is in there? (Why does the paper towel not get wet?) • We learned that air takes up space and it is inside the cup when it is placed upside down in the water.
