Goals Through Guiding Principles • “Be proactive by anticipating and dealing with change and growth in communities they serve.” • “Continually develop the B&G Club Board to assure it remains the premier volunteer Board of Directors in the area.” • “Attract, develop and retain highly competent and motivated staff.” (2003-2005 Strategic Plan, 4)

  6. Organization • The Boys and Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley is a 501( c ) (3) nonprofit agency dedicated to the care of children. They take pride in providing not only recreational but education activities that will help build life long, productive citizens with the ability to give back to their communities in a positive manner.

  13. Corporate Board • The Corporate Board of Directors is the governing body of the organization responsible for the establishment and periodic review of all policies. These personnel policies have been developed with the input of staff, but the board retain the final authority and responsibility. (Employee Handbook, 6 )

Employees • President/CEO (1) is hired by the Corporate Board of Directors whose qualifications and experiences are such that he /she can administer the program and activities of the Boys and Girls Club within the policies set by the board. Answers solely to the board. • Hires, discharges, and fixes compensation with Advisory Board of Directors of all administrative staff, Facility Directors. (Employee Handbook, 6 )

Obstacles • Rapid Growth 20 facilities now- obtaining more clubs while not requiring cities to provide funds up front • Funding-Grants are slowing down and with a larger competitive base for same funds • Employee turnover- Facilities/clubs have high turnover rate due to lower pay, college students returning to school, and seasonal spurts Interview with Kelly Drummond, VP Human Resource
