  2. BASIC MANEUVERS • Straight line backing • Alley dock backing • Parallel parking

  3. BASIC MANEUVERS • Sight side backing • Blind side backing

  4. GENERAL PROCEDURES • Get out of vehicle and check to the rear • Check above, under, and to the sides (overhead obstacles wires, trees, limbs) • Know your surroundings – watch for curbs, ramps, or any other possible obstacles

  5. GENERAL PROCEDURES • Check for adequate swing clearance • Check in front of your vehicle (if pulling forward) • Warn others - horn • Don’t delay once checks are completed

  6. GENERAL PROCEDURES • Back as slowly as possible • Use lowest reverse gear • Don’t- accelerate - ride clutch - over steer

  7. GENERAL PROCEDURES • Back to the left (sight side) when possible • Use mirrors • Use horn • Use flashers • Turn off radio • Ask for someone to help guide if possible • Keep windows open (listen for noise)

  8. CAUTION – USE OF HELPER • Driver and helper must agree on signals (don’t assume) • Helper has to be seen in driver’s rear view mirror at all times • Driver must take full responsibility
