  1. GBK Geometry Jordan Johnson

  2. Today’s plan • Greeting • Announcement re Chairs • Warm-up • Return & Review S1 Final Exam • Line Symmetry & Perpendicular Bisectors • Homework / Questions • Clean-up

  3. Warm-up: Algebra Review • Solve: • a2 + 2a – 3 = a2 – 4a + 9 • d = • Factor: • 7x + 49 • x2 + 8x + 16 • b2 – 9 • a2b2– 4a2 • Answers: • a = 2 • d = • a= • Answers: • 7(x + 7) • (x + 4)2 • (b + 3)(b – 3) • a2(b2 – 4)= a2(b + 2)(b – 2)

  4. S1 Final Exam • Overall, good scores: • Mean  81%, median = 86% • Warnings: • Review your algebra • Square roots • Factoring • Adding & subtracting polynomials • Dividing & multiplying

  5. Review: Ch. 6 Lesson 1 • Theorem 16: • In a plane, two points that are each equidistant from the endpoints of a line segment determine the perpendicular bisector of that line segment. AB  DC and DC bisects AB.

  6. Defining Reflection Symmetry • Remember reflection symmetry: • A figure has reflection symmetry about a line m iff… …it is its own image when reflected about line m.

  7. Alternate definition • Points A and B are symmetric with respect to line m iff m is the perpendicular bisector of AB.

  8. Alternate definition, cont. • Two figures a and b are symmetric w.r.t. line m iff every point in a is symmetric with some point in b (w.r.t. line m). • (A figure has reflection symmetry w.r.t. line m iff it is symmetric with itself w.r.t line m.) a b

  9. Homework • For tomorrow: Read Ch. 6, Lesson 2; write theorems & definitions (including diagrams) in your notes. • Asg #45: Ch. 5 Algebra Review (p. 210): #1-19. • Due Friday, 2/1. • Asg#46: From Ch. 6, Lesson 1 (pp. 214-218): • Set I Exercises 1-20. • Set II Exercises 28-41. • Bonus: Set III. • Also due Friday. • Asg #47: From Ch. 6, Lesson 2 (pp. 219-224): • Set I Exercises 1-3, 7-16. • Set II Exercises 24-28, 31-39. • Bonus: Set III. Due Monday, 2/4.

  10. Clean-up / Reminders • Pick up all trash / items. • Push in chairs (at front and back tables). • See you tomorrow!
