  1. The Hunger Games Author: Suzanne Collins Publisher: Scholastic Publication Year: By Braxton Francis

  2. Introduction • It takes place in the ruins of what was once called North America, where everything is split into districts and the shining star of them all is the controlling Capital (District 1) who lives glamorously among the ruins. • A girl who lives in District 12 named Katniss Everdeen takes her little sister’s place in a competition held every year by the Capital to keep the Districts in their place along with a boy who helped her once upon a time named Peeta. • She struggles to survive the Hunger Games, with the odds that are never ever in her favor.

  3. Characters Protagonist Antagonist • Katniss Everdeen has oily skin, straight black hair, and gray eyes, resembling Gale, a friend. • President Snow has pale, ice cold skin, snow white hair,(hint hint at his name).

  4. The Central Conflict • Katniss must conquer the 74th Annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live television, to return back to her sister, Primrose, and her mother along with her friend, Gale, with the help of a former life saver, Peeta Melark, and former Hunger Games competitor, Haymitch.

  5. Minor Characters • Haymitch -A former winner of a previous Hunger Games, he spends most of his evenings drowning in alcohol , his raspy brown hair slowly turning gray and long with age. -He becomes Katniss’ and Peeta’s mentor once they are chosen. • Gale -Katniss’ best friend and hunting partner, Gale has gray eyes and straight black hair, along with oily skin that resembles Katniss. -He is always there for Katniss and his family just like how Katniss is for his.

  6. Peeta Mellark • As the second tribute to the Hunger Games from District 12, he has blonde hair and blue eyes and works in a family bakery. • He saved Katniss when they were younger .

  7. The Critic’s Opinion. • “The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a dystopian novel written for young adults (YA).” -ManOfLaBook.com • “ The book is full of exciting events.” – the New Yorker

  8. My Opinion • I think that the book has a great start and an even more dynamic ending. The main character is a true role model and hero to most. I highly recommend reading this book and the 2 to follow it afterwards.
