  2. The English PHAB Founder Ms Mary Robinson introduced this PHAB concept to Hong Kong in 1970. • We believe in “Opportunity Not Pity”. • Hong Kong PHAB Association was established in October 1972. PHABstands for Physically Handicapped And Able-Bodied

  3. Care for the Carers Project Care for the Carers Project was established in 2008. It is a pilot project for the carers. We provide a one-stop case management, professional counseling and comprehensive support services to carers of people with physical disabilities.

  4. Care for the Carers Project Rationale: - Carer plays a pivotal role in the caring of the disabled. • Carer is the key in the success of ‘Care in the Community’. • Carer has his/her special needs. • There is no specialized and holistic care for the carer in Hong Kong.

  5. Care for the Carers Project Objectives: • To provide a ‘family-based’service to carer and the disabled. • To provide an out-reach counselling service. • To support the carer and the disabled to live in the community. • To make referrals to other suitable services for the carer and the disabled.

  6. Care for the Carers Project Target • Carers of people with physical disabilities • Carers who receive no monetary reward for the caring • Hong Kong Citizens with no age limit • April 2008- March 2012: over 280 cases

Care for the Carers Project • The Care for the Carers Project which integrates the element of case management seems to be effective in reducing the stress, anxiety and depression of the carers. • However, there was no control group and a more rigorous research design is recommended to evaluate the project in future.
