  2. A reaction paper is: • A response that reveals a person's feelings or attitude and • Offers substantiated support for the response.

  3. Reaction or response papers are designed so that you'll consider carefully what you think or feel about something you've read, seen, or heard.

  5. Organize into three sections: 1. Introduction 2. Body 3. Conclusion

  6. Introduction Sentence 1 should include pertinent information such as author, title, and publication or presenter, title, and place. Sentence 2, 3, and 4 should give a summary or overview. Sentence 5 should be your thesis (i.e., you agree, disagree, identify with, or evaluate).

  7. Thesis Statement A thesis statement is an assertion, not a statement of fact. A thesis should take a stand, contain one main point, and be sufficiently specific and narrow.

  8. Thesis Non-Examples/Examples • NON-EXAMPLE: Art students visit many exhibitions while in school. • EXAMPLE: Art students visit many exhibitions while in school to advance their knowledge of art and artists.

  9. NON-EXAMPLE: Chinese Profile II by Hung Liuis an appropriated image of a Chinese “type.” • EXAMPLE: Chinese Profile II by Hung Liu is an appropriated image that toys with a stereotypical Western view of Chinese women.

  10. Body • The body should contain paragraphs that provide support for your thesis. • Each paragraph should contain one idea. • The topic sentence of each paragraph should support the thesis. • The final sentence of each paragraph should lead into the next paragraph.

  11. Conclusion • A restatement of what you said in your paper, • A comment that focuses on your overall reaction, or • A prediction of the effects about your topic. Note: your conclusion should include no new information.
