  1. AIR FORCE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (FAP) OTHER BENEFITS YOUR OBLIGATION WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU QWhat will my obligation be if I accept Air Force financial assistance? QAre there other Air Force benefits to consider after residency? QI’m looking for a program that will help me supplement my residency pay. What does the Air Force have to offer me? AYou will owe the Air Force a minimum enlistment of three years. For example, if the Air Force sponsors your residency for two years, after your residency, you would practice your specialty as an active duty captain for three years. A three-year sponsor- ship requires a four-year active duty payback. AThere are many! You will be eligible to receive additional pay and bonuses depending on your area of specialization and experience. The benefits listed below are just a few of the many the Air Force has to offer: - 30 days of vacation with pay each year - no malpractice issues - no overhead (staff payroll, equipment, leases, etc.) - average work week 48 hours - tax-free housing and clothing allowances - comprehensive medical care and a low-cost dental insurance plan for eligible family members ADepending on your specialty, the Air Force Financial Assistance Program (FAP) gives you ways to complete your residency and concentrate on becoming your best by not having to worry about finances. ADVANTAGES QAre there other advantages to the FAP Program? QHow can FAP help me keep from incurring a large financial debt? ABesides the monetary aspects of the program, after you complete your residency you’ll join our health care team – one of the best in the world. You’ll step into a ready-made practice with no start- up costs and no worries about malpractice insurance. You’ll find your peers are highly skilled, and always ready to serve as consultants when you need them. You can concentrate on giving your patients the care they need without being concerned about their ability to pay You’ll be part of the Air Force family, sharing a common bond with your patients along with the satisfaction of service to your country. AYou’ll receive a grant of more than $70,000 for every year you participate in the Air Force Financial Assistance Program, if you’re accepted. This money will help you start your medical practice without increasing your education loan debt. If you already have a family, the extra income we offer can help you meet their needs as well as your own. TO QUALIFY QWhat qualifications do I need? OTHER INCENTIVES AYour area of specialization must meet current Air Force needs and you must be currently enrolled in an accredited specialty training program in the United States or Puerto Rico. Also, you must not have contracted to serve a state or other party after you graduate. You must pass an Air Force physical exam and be a U.S. citizen of good moral character. QAre there other incentives? FOR MORE INFORMATION AYes, we can help you with monthly expenses too! You’ll get $2,088 a month up to a maximum of 11 ½ months each year. During the remaining two weeks of each year, you will receive the full pay, allowances and privileges of an Air Force captain while on active duty. Depending on your education and experience, you may serve at a higher rank. QHow can I find out more about the Air Force FAP program and other Air Force benefits? AContact Perry L. Morlando the health professions recruiter in your area at (407) 285-7958 or e-mail perry.morlando@us.af.mil, or visit AIRFORCE.COM
