Perennial Specialty Crop Production in Mississippi Christine Coker and Wayne Porter Asparagus Trials Very vigorous, produces high yields, high disease tolerance, produces well in warmer climates. Knight produces the best spear quality of all the Jersey hybrids. Green spears with purple bracts. Mary Washington Open pollinated variety. Medium to large purplish-tinged, tightly-budded spears. Grows well throughout the midwest/east. One of the older varieties, tried and true. Jersey Knight New Jersey variety.Improved Production: high yields, good spear quality, and high disease resistance. These varieties are most definitely worthy of trials. All-male variety. Very vigorous, produces high yields, high disease tolerance, produces well in cooler climates. Green spears with purple bracts. NJ1122 Jersey Giant JerseySupreme New Jersey variety.Trials from Rutgers University showed this variety to yield 30% more than Jersey Giant! Very Resistant to rust. All-male hybrid.
