  1. The Evolution of Fitness | Replicating Your Footprint with Home Gym Equipment

  2. You pack your gym bag the night before as extra motivation. After work, on your drive over, you down a smoothie or snack on a protein bar to get extra energy for what’s about to take place. You check twice to ensure you have your headphones because nothing is worse than leaving them at home. You pull into the parking lot and see your gym-best friend’s car. You know it’s going to be a good night.

  3. You walk in to see 30,000 square feet of gym and hundreds of pieces of equipment to choose from. The possibilities are endless. You find yourself gravitating towards your usual machines and gym equipment to accomplish the fitness goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year. It’s two months in, and you are crushing them. Life is good. Gym life is better.

  4. But then… the pandemic hits. And the doors to your second home close indefinitely.  • The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has drastically impacted the fitness industry. Due to gym closures, social distancing regulations, and health and safety guidelines, going to the gym may not only look different but–depending on where you live–it may not even be possible. So how do you accomplish your fitness goals

  5. Fitness is evolving. Even with the optimistic hope that things will eventually turn back to normal, gym closures have forced us to look closely at our fitness goals and find creative solutions. “Gym life” has not ended. It has simply evolved.

  6. The Emergence of the Home Gym • Home gyms have always been a thing, but because of the increased number of gym closures in 2020, there is a rapid movement toward building out the “home gym” in 2021.  • However, the reality is most of us do not have 30,000 square feet of space to dedicate to a home gym. Nor do we have hundreds of thousands of dollars set aside to spend on home gym equipment. So, how do you replicate your gym footprint in the space you have available?

  7. Pause and Define Your Fitness Footprint  • First, you must define your fitness footprint. This can easily be done by taking your fitness goals and comparing them to how much real estate you actually used with your monthly gym membership. • For example, if your main fitness goal is to strengthen your upper body, what were your go-to exercises and gym equipment? Chances are you did not use every piece of available equipment to accomplish this goal. In fact, if you pause and reflect on a typical night at the gym, you may start to realize your “footprint” was quite small

  8. . You typically used a gym rack with a flat bench, bar, and plates, an adjustable bench with dumbbells, and a few cable attachments. You never used any of the cardio equipment or machines. • Or, maybe your goal is to lose 20 pounds and tone your arms, legs, and abs. What gym equipment did you use to do that? You typically used a cardio machine, a set of dumbbells, a leg machine on occasion, and a mat with a medicine ball. You never ventured over to the squat rack or tried a bench press.

  9. Once you define your footprint, you will start to see how you can replicate it in a home gym and still achieve your fitness goals using only what you used at the gym.  • Once you define your footprint, you will start to see how you can replicate it in a home gym and still achieve your fitness goals using only what you used at the gym.

  10. Build Your Home Gym  • Your fitness footprint can be replicated at your home gym. You simply have to recreate the right footprint for your fitness goals. This means prioritizing which equipment and machines you need to create your ideal home gym. But how do you do this, really? • By purchasing home gym equipment with multi-functional purposes and supplemental pieces of equipment and weights, you can create a robust gym space. With the evolution of fitness breathing life into home gyms, home gym packages that include only what you need are becoming increasingly popular.

  11. At Kingdom Fitness California, we help gym-goers just like you re-evaluate their fitness goals and equipment needs to design a fully functional and affordable home gym. With a personalized gym experience, you will achieve the results you have been looking for in the comfort of your own space.

  12. Pros and Cons of a Home Gym  There are a variety of benefits of utilizing a home gym to accomplish your fitness goals. Here are the pros and cons of a home gym to determine if it is the right fit for you.

  13. Home Gym Pros • You eliminate travel time. With a gym conveniently located in your own home, you save yourself the time of driving to and from the gym. This also makes it easier to get in a workout before work if you want. With your shower right upstairs, you don’t have to plan extra time to make it to and from the gym early in the morning.

  14. You can workout whenever is convenient for you. You are the owner of your home gym, which means you never have to worry about it closing. If you feel like doing some bench presses at midnight, you can go right ahead and workout whenever it is best for you.

  15. You don’t have to wait for equipment. Let’s be honest… waiting for someone to be done using the gym equipment you need is a mood-kill. With a home gym, you are free to move around and change exercises whenever you need to optimize your fitness routine. • Your gym is tailored to you. Everything from the available equipment to the volume of the music, your home gym is your space. You can make it the perfect environment for you.

  16. Home Gym Cons • You don’t get to socialize with other gym-goers. One of the biggest “cons” of a home gym is the lack of social interaction. If you have gym buddies or like making small talk in between sets, your home gym may feel lonely at times. However, depending on your space and available equipment, there is nothing that says you can’t have a friend over for a workout session or get the whole family involved in fitness by exercising together.

  17. You are your only motivation. If checking out what weight the person next to you is lifting gets you motivated, you will have to find new ways to push yourself in a home gym. This is as much a mental exercise as it is a physical one. You can do it!

  18. You have to invest in fitness equipment. Building your home gym does require an initial investment. However, by purchasing equipment from a knowledgeable company such as Kingdom Fitness California, you can find the most versatile, high-quality equipment for the best value so you only invest in what you will actually use.
