  2. 24total credits: earned during grades 9-12 which must include: 3 Science classes 4 Social Studies, English, and Math classes 2 computer courses 2 Health/Wellness(grades 10 & 11) 4 Physical Education (grades 9to 12) (NJROTC exempt in grades 9 &12) • Successful completion of your Career Portfolio or BCTC Senior Project • Satisfactory completion of EOCAs What you need to earn your diplomain 2016:

  3. If you are missing any of your graduation requirements up until this point, make an appointment with your counselor immediately!

On October 15th you will be taking the PSAT to: • Receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. • Evaluate how your performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college. • Help prepare for the SAT. You can become familiar with the types of questions, directions and the format of the SAT.

  7. One more reason to take the PSAT: • It enters you into the competition for scholarships from National Merit Scholarship Corp. • (We will discuss this more when we return your results in December, but you can read about it on the “Green” • side of your Official Student Guide.)

  8. PSAT/NMSQT • Stands for: The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) • Test will be given during school on Wednesday, October 15th to all Junior students including BCTC • The district is paying for it. • There is no need to register with College-Board • There will not be make-ups if you are not present that morning.

  10. Critical Reading • Page 10 • Vocabulary • Comprehending Sentences • Reading Effectively • Sentence Completion • Passage-Based Reading

  11. Math • Page 19 • Number and Operations • Algebra and Functions • Geometry and Measurement • Data Analysis, Statistics and Probability • (you should bring a 4 function, scientific or graphing calculator- for specifics refer to p.19 in your Official Student Guide)

  12. WRITING • Page 31 • Improving Sentences • Identifying Sentence Errors • Improving Paragraphs • There is no Essay on the PSAT

  13. Pacing • Testing will take approximately 3 hours. • Minutes per portion is announced at the beginning of each section • Start and stop times will be posted for each section. • Complete the questions you know the answers to first.

  14. Scoring & Guessing Refer to the front page of your Practice Test Multiple Choice-On the PSAT & SAT only, if you cannot eliminate any choices, move on. The way the test is scored, you lose more points for a wrong answer than no response.

  15. The Counselors will be back in December to deliver your PSAT score report and explain your scores. In the meantime…
