  1. Training on Braille

  2. Braille -is a system of embossed characters formed by using combinations of six dots consisting of two vertical columns of three dots each and known as the braille cell. Each simple braille character is formed by one or more of these dots and occupies a full cell or space. For convenience, the dots of the braille cell are numbers, Thus, the upper left hand dots in the braille cell is designated DOT 1; middle LH dot 2 lower LH – 3; upper RH – 4, middle RH – 5, LRH 6

  3. THE ALPHABET

  4. The first 10 letters of the alphabet are formed from the UPPER AND MIDDLE DOTS OF THE CELL

  5. The second 10 letters of the alphabet are formed by adding dot 3

  6. Letter W – dots 2456 does not fit into this pattern Braille was devised by a Frenchman – French Alphabet don’t have W

  7. Capitalization is indicated by use of special capital sign (dot 6) which should be placed immediately before the letter Example: Capital a = “A”

  8. Punctuation

  9. Numbers are expressed by letters A to J preceded by a special braille composition sign dots 3456 known as the number sign
