  1. Release 15 OverviewMSAM, T-BERD / MTS 5800 Customer Presentation May 2012

  2. Key Benefits of Release 15 • Enables Layer 4 testing on the TB/MTS-5800 for TCP Throughput testing with TrueSpeed™ • Reduces complexity and operational expense through automation tools to minimize technician entry errors and expedite time to revenue. • Offers precision timing options to improve accuracy of measurements for Key Performance Indicators. • Reduces tower activation expense by enabling work groups to execute both Front and Back Haul validation from a single test unit.

  3. Feature Content Highlights

  4. TrueSpeed™ on the TB/MTS-5800 What is it? • Availability of TrueSpeed™ (RFC 6349) testing functionality on the TB/MTS-5800. • An addition to the Service Activation test suite to provide a more realistic view of the end-user experience. • Measures the actual application (layer 4) performance as it will behave in the Carrier Ethernet network. Customer Benefits Field Notes • Early recognition of problems that could lead to poor application performance. • Additional validation of network engineering and feedback on configuration parameters • TrueSspeed now runs as an integrated part of the SAMComplete (Y.1564) test with no additional test time required. • Simple UI for ease of test initiation • Test status and results that quickly indicate success or failure. • Packaged conveniently within the Carrier Ethernet Bundle.

  5. TrueSAM™ – Test Automation What is it? • Simplification and streamlining of service-activation workflows. • Push button initiation and storing of test results into a single easy-to-read report. Customer Benefits • Eliminates the need to run multiple tests. • Provides a single comprehensive report for customers that includes a single audit point and circuit baseline. Field Notes • Quicker test execution with error free data entry. • TrueSAM is included within the firmware upgrades. • Supported on TB/MTS 5800, 6000A, or 8000 with MSAM module.

  6. Y.1564 Phase III What is it? • Adds a single enhancement to SAMComplete – concurrent bidirectional testing. • An improvement on the sequential bidirectional testing introduced in earlier releases. Sequential bidirectional testing requires that the near and far end transmit traffic to each other one after the other, i.e sequentially. Concurrent testing allows them to do this at the same time. Field Notes Customer Benefits • Supported on TB/MTS 5800, 6000A, or 8000 with MSAMv1 and v2 modules. • Reduces the time needed for testing by nearly 50%.

  7. 1 Pulse Per Second Analysis GPS-Rcvr Metro Ethernet PE ADM PE ADM CE SDH CE PTP PTP 1pps PTP GM PTP Slave 1pps What is it? • Measures wander at 1 pulse per second (1PPS) interface to analyze packet-based clock services. • Verifies and reports the quality of 1PPS signals. Customer Benefits • Eliminates the need to run multiple tests. • Synchronizes several geographically dispersed clients (for example, cell cites) to the same time and phase of 1 µs. Field Notes • Characterize synchronization service quality of client (slave) devices at the 1PPS interface. • this feature requires a dedicated test port (1PPS) that is not available on the MSAMv1 or the T-BERD/MTS-5800

  8. GPS Based One Way Delay Metro Ethernet CE SDH CE GPS-Receivers What is it? • Measures the delay of Ethernet, IPv4 and IPv6 traffic that is received from a sender using a highly accurate GPS receiver. Customer Benefits Field Notes • Detects asymmetric traffic delays enabling differentiated service offerings and allowing network planners to understand the delay tolerances affecting higher-layer applications. • One GPS per test location is required • MSAM/5800 utilizes the same kit

  9. External Clock (GPS) IEEE 1588v2 What is it? • Provides an option to test PTP links which are intended to be used to deliver time/phase synchronization between a master and slave device using a GPS device. • The link is qualified by measuring packet loss, packet delay variation and other parameters. Customer Benefits Field Notes • This feature enhances the current functionality by improving the accuracy of the measurements . • New graph results added: • Slave to Master OWD, Current • Slave to Master OWD, Average • Master to Slave OWD, Current • Master to Slave OWD. Average

  10. PDH Jitter What is it? • Adds both optical and electrical jitter and wander measurement and generation. • Excessive pointer movement can cause jitter problems including errors or signal losses on maped PDH Tributaries. Customer Benefits Field Notes • Strengthens the product’s acceptance in the field communications test market by providing a lower cost solution. • Applicable only to the MTS-8000 BERT module. • The optical and electrical jitter features are identical.

  11. CPRI 2.4G Layer 1 What is it? DAS Fronthaul Demarcation Antenna • Verifies 2.4G CPRI or 3.1G CPRI/OBSAI Rate receipt – check Rx Freq, Frame Count • Perform BER testing to verify no errors or code violations • Measures L1 delay of the Transport Link between the tower and base stations. RF RF over Fiber (e.g. CPRI) Turn up and field Test Customer Benefits • Validate fiber operation and clean communication to minimize tower installation delay • Standards based testing methodolgy Field Notes • Field instruments equipped to validate Tower to Base Station and Base Station to MTSO from a single instrument.

  12. Fast OAM What is it? • Support the ‘heartbeat’ messages up to 300 frames per second which is the Y.1731/G.8114/G.8113.1 maximum rate. Customer Benefits Field Notes • Accelerates the OAM message rate, especially for the connection continuity mechanism, support to meet the maximum frame rates as reflected in the standards. • Fast OAM ‘heartbeat’ messages (CCM/FFD) applicable to : • Y.1731 (OAM for Ethernet) • G.8114/G.8113.1 (OAM for T-MPLS) • Y.1711 (OAM for MPLS)

  13. Auto-Discover MEPs What is it? • MEP OAM Discovery using CCM messages in a passive monitoring capability to verify proper configuration of the OAM topology. Customer Benefits Field Notes • Contained in the existing Layer 2 OAM option. • Identifies the various EVCs (Ethernet Virtual Circuits) in which an EVC may be a VLAN or Q-in-Q connection in the network whee there will be MEPs, MAs, and MDs within each EVC. • The tool will support the discovery of up to 250 MEPs. • MEP Discovery Tool can run two tests on different ports.

  14. Y.1711 What is it? • Y.1711 defines an OAM protocol for MPLS networks. • Y.1711 specific OAM packets • CV and FFD • FDI (=ASI) • BDI (=RDI) Customer Benefits Field Notes • Tests will quickly identify defect conditions in an MPLS environment. • The test will allow the artificial injection of defect to test the ability of the OAM to respond to Y.1711 messages. • Supports Y.1711 in the following test mode: • Layer 2 MPLS-TP Traffic

  15. J-Profiler (MPLS-TP & VLAN) What is it? • Provides support of discovering and classifying streams by MPLS labels with VLAN, • Adds existing filter based capture decode capability to the J-Profiler application.
