  2. Every day, children all over the world are going to school and enjoying their right to an education. Yet 57 million children, for many different reasons, are missing out. And for many who do go to school, it is not a place where they feel safe or have the facilities needed for a good education.

  3. Why are some children not able to go to school?

  4. distance to travel • poverty • being a girl • because it’s not safe • extreme weather

  5. Why are some children not able to enjoy a good quality education?

  6. Not enough classrooms or equipment Not enough trained teachers

  7. Some schools don’t have drinking water or proper toilets Some children can’t get food to eat at school

  8. But UNICEF’s Child Friendly Schools are changing things by…

  9. …. providing safe places to learn This is Adhou

  10. …. helping children to get back to school in emergency situations by providing tents and equipment for temporary schools. For example, after the cyclone in Madagascar and the earthquake in Haiti.

  11. …. providing books, pencils and pens and other resources A UNICEF School in a Boxwill help at least 40 children to continue their education in times of emergency

  12. ….helping to train teachers so they teach effectively, treat children fairly, and make learning fun
