  1. Christmas stories • “WHEN Scrooge awoke, it was so dark, that looking out of bed, he could scarcely distinguish the transparent window from the opaque walls of his chamber”. • Thus begins the 2nd chapter of the world’s most famous Christmas story, ”A Christmas Carol”, by Charles Dickens. • Christmas stories are important tools for spreading Christmas cheer. Actually it is said that Charles Dickens’ story, “A Christmas Carol”, saved Christmas as we know it today. When Charles Dickens wrote his story in the 18th century, the celebration of Xmas was on the wane. But Dickens used his story to describe Christmas as a time of joy, a time when people respect each other, and a time when everything is all right. • People liked to hear this story, and in the following years, happy Christmas stories became more and more popular together with the decorated Christmas tree, Christmas gifts, and the overall Christmas spirit.
