  1. 2018 Football Parent Meeting Wednesday, April 18, 2018

  2. Objective for this meeting • Our goal tonight is to go over everything related to your child playing football at Cy Creek. • We want to answer any question you might have relative to our program. • We want to provide you with avenues to gain additional information if needed.

  3. Calendar • We are providing you with a calendar that covers everything from the day we started our offseason program on November 26th, 2017 to December 31st, 2018. • Please reference this calendar when looking for game schedules, practice schedules, holiday workouts, SAC camp, fall camp start dates, etc. • Please remember that this is the plan. We will have to adjust to weather events, school closings, events occurring at opponent schools. • If we make changes we will put the information out on Twitter, our booster club website and the Cy Creek website.

  4. Calendar Review • Coaches are passing out the calendar now and if you lose our misplace it we will post this on the Cy Creek website and the booster club website. • We can also provide you a new hard copy if needed.

  5. Requirements to play Football • Our rules and requirements are simple but firm. • 1. Athletes must be zoned to Cy Creek or be at Cy Creek on a legal transfer that has been approved by the district. • 2. Athletes must have a current physical, on the CFISD form, and athletes must complete the on-line portion of the physical form before they can participate. • 3. Athletes must be academically eligible to participate as dictated by the UIL. This includes provisions of no-pass/no-play and accumulation of credits on a yearly basis. • 4. Athletes should be enrolled in a football athletic period. Our 9th graders are placed in our 3rd period football class and our Junior Varsity and Varsity players are placed in our 5th period football class. • * On a very rare occasion we will permit an athlete to play and not be in the athletic period due to class conflicts or a unique academic situation. Coach McCaig will review the situation and has the sole authority to allow this to happen.

  6. Requirements to play Football • 5. Athletes must behave in the classroom setting. The football program will support the classroom teachers 100% of the time. If the student cannot or will not behave in the classroom, the hallways, the lunch room, or any other school setting he or she is subject to removal from the team. Coach McCaig will make this decision. • 6. Athletes must be here. Our players are expected to be in attendance for all practices, classroom sessions, special called events and games. Athletes who can’t be trusted to be here will not be trusted to play and will not be on our team. • 7. Athletes are expected to be on time. We are very clear as to our expectation of when our athletes must be ready to go. If we can’t trust them to be on time then they will not be trusted to play. Excessive tardiness will result in removal from the team. • 8. Athletes must have their issued equipment. Our players are expected to have their practice and workout gear every day. We will not issue extra gear to students who forget their equipment. Students are financially responsible for their equipment.

  7. Behaviors and Consequences • It is our belief that it is our responsibility to teach our players that every action has a consequence. If our athletes make the correct choices then they will enjoy their time in football. If our athletes choose to make bad decisions then they will face the consequence for those decisions. • 1. Theft – if a football player is caught stealing, from a teammate, from a classmate or in the community at large he or she will be removed from the program. • 2. Skipping workouts – if a football player is caught skipping workouts he or she will be removed from the program.

  8. Behaviors and Consequences • 3. Failing Grades – it is our expectation that every player maintains his or her academic eligibility. Repeatedfailure over multiple grade checks could result in removal from the program. • 4. Persistent classroom or school disruptions – it is our expectation that every player will serve as a role model for their classmates. If the player disrupts his classmates or his peers in school on a repeated basis he could be removed from the program. • 5. Disrespectful behavior toward coaches, teachers, administration or fellow students – it is our expectation that every player will treat the members of our school in a polite and respectful manner. Failure to conduct ones self in a respectful manner could result in removal from the team.

  9. Competitive Processes • Our expectation is that we have a competitive and winning program. • Athletes will be given every chance to compete for an opportunity to play. We will NOT guarantee playing time for any player. • We will reward those athletes who here, who are working to the best of their ability, who are improving and who give us the best chance to win! • Playing time is a reward for those players who commit to what is right for the team. Position switches are very common in high school. We will place the players in spots that we have determined are best for the overall success of the team.

  10. Competitive Processes • 4. We will film both practices and games. We will make corrections and evaluations and move players up and down our depth chart based on their performance. • 5. We will work diligently to maximize the player’s physical development. We will attempt to make the player as big as we can, as fast as we can, as agile as we can and strong as we can. • 6. We will evaluate players on their ability, their character, their dependability and on how they can enhance the success of the team.

  11. Policies • 1. In order to participate in football every player must be a member of the offseason program and participate in spring training. • 2. In order to participate in spring training each player must be academically eligible to play. This is not a CFISD policy, this a Coach McCaig policy. • 3. We will, on occasion and circumstance, allow an athlete from another program to join our program late if they receive a positive recommendation from their coach and don’t have any academic or behavioral issues. • 4. We will reward and support those athletes who participate in a 2nd sport. We strongly believe in the value of multi-sport athletes.

  12. Policies • 5. We will reward those players who do well academically. They will get their equipment first, they will be recognized in front of their peers, they will get to load busses first, etc. In short, we recognize the value of academic success! • 6. We will demand that our athletes keep our facilities clean and neat. • 7. We will expect that the players wear the equipment that is issued to them. This policy goes for practice and games. We will NOT allow athletes to wear non-approved equipment, we will NOT allow athletes to alter their uniforms or supplement them with extra gear.

  13. Policies • 8. We strongly believe in our S.A.C. program. Participation in our summer program is an integral part of success on all levels of our football team. • 9. Communication is a must. We expect our athletes to let us know if they are sick, attending a funeral, going on a field trip, etc. To that end, we will provide you with several contact points to keep the coaches informed. • 10. Quitting is discouraged. If an athlete quits a program during the season he will not be allowed to join another program until the season is over for his or her previous team.

  14. Booster Club • It is our belief that support of our booster club is absolutely essential if we are going to be successful. • We need all of our football community to commit their time, talent and financial resources to our program so that we can provide the best possible experience for our players. • We have to supplement our budget to provide for weight room enhancements, trainings, scholarship opportunities, supplemental equipment, etc. • Membership in the Booster Club by the parents will Not enhance the status or opportunities for the players. They must still earn their way! • Our President is Mr. Jeff Farish.
