  4. Partial Preamble Language • The North Thurston Public Schools (NTPS) and the North Thurston Education Association (NTEA) work to develop ongoing, collaborative and interest-based bargaining. We proudly commit to these practices as the base of our relationship because it serves the best interests of our students, educators and community. We believe that continued collaboration and openness will allow us to achieve the shared District mission of a “commitment to excellence: providing every student the academic and life skills necessary to succeed in a diverse world.”

Therefore, our strong, mutual relationship will not only serve our students today, but will provide the leadership foundation for future bargaining team. • This contract promotes the interests of: …Working toward exemplary working conditions in the areas of compensation, class size, workload, and teacher responsibilities.

  6. Compensation • No TRI decreases due to state reductions. • TRI comparison to 12 other districts. We currently rank 7th on the list. • TRI increases in 2012 to 6th and in 2013 to 5th. We will maintain our rank of 5th in 2014. • Longevity salary increase: • .5% (one day) TRI increase in the 20th year • 1% (two days) TRI increase in the 25th year • 1.5% (three days) TRI increase in the 30th year

What Are TRI Days? • Time/Responsibility/Incentive • This is pay above the state salary schedule • Time • 30 hours (4 days) of District Directed Professional Development time tracked on My Learning Plan • You can opt out of this time at the beginning of the school year • Two Professional Develop Days (Fridays without students) • One building Professional Development Day before school starts • One day before school starts

  9. TRI Continued… • Responsibility • 13 days if 1-24 years of experience • 15 days if over 24 years of experience • Totals • 21 days if 1-24 years of experience • 23 days if over 24 years of experience

  10. Contract Length • Five year contract • Protects if things get worse and guarantees benefit if times get better. There will be no backsliding if other districts’ TRI pay goes down. • Years one and two maintain current TRI pay schedule • Year three move from 7th to 6th • Year four move from 6th to 5th • Year five maintain 5th place on the comparison list • Clarified reopener language to ensure ongoing discussion about compensation

  12. Personal Leave • You can still accumulate six days of personal leave. • Now you can also use six days of personal leave in a row!

  13. Secondary Resource Room • For the 2011-2012 school year the caseload will be up to thirty (30) students. For the 2013-2014 school year the caseload will be up to twenty-eight (28) students. • 31.14.1 Secondary resource teachers can be assigned to teach intervention courses within the building’s response to intervention (RTI) plan. These courses can serve special education and general education populations. The recommended class sizes for these intervention courses are as follows: • Tier 2 (Strategic) Intervention Courses - twenty (20) students • Tier 3 (Intensive) Intervention Courses – ten (10) students

  14. Final Thoughts • Any significant increases in compensation must come from a state COLA • District increases happen in smaller increments
