1. Analysis of two thrillers City of God City of God is set in South America, possibly Brazil. We can tell from the opening sequence because of the sounds and the titles at the beginning. The music is samba music which is an iconic part of Brazilian culture. The main characters are Rocket, You can tell he is one of the main characters because he has the most screen time and his face was shown right at the start. Another main character is the man (Lil Zee) giving orders to his men/gang to chase the boy. We know he is another one of the main character because he acts like the villain/enemy of the boy. The genre of City of God is a Gangster movie as is has many elements in the film that makes it a gangster. The main element that makes it a gangster is that there are gangs involved in the movie. Jaws The movie, Jaws is a thriller and it also has many elements that makes you recognise the genre. It has tension, suspense and makes you feel very uneasy as it keeps you “on the edge of your seats.” The music increases in volume to build tension. The mis-en-scenes in the movie senses that the normality of the ocean is going be disrupted and the dark lighting also suggests the same. The editing of the movie when the woman is in the water emphasises her isolation and her vulnerability in the water. The main characters is the lifeguard who realises there is a shark attack and the one who goes to all measures to find the shark and kill it tot prevent any more deaths on the beach. I also think that the shark is another main character in the movie because the main storyline resolves around the shark. It is mainly set at the because that is the place where all the shark attacks takes place.
