  2. Australia is roughly 9463 miles away from America, 6363 miles from south Africa, and roughly the same distance from main countries like England and China, with the exception of New Zealand.

  3. Australia’s history • Australia was settled in the 1800’s by Europeans, initially by penal transportation. Australia has six states: South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory, Western Australia and Tasmania. • Originally the Aboriginal population was around 350,000. Numbers declined after foreign diseases were spread, also the stolen generation was part of a dramatic numbers of deaths in the aboriginal population. Children were taken from the homes and put into English families and their families were killed for their land. • In 1850 there was a huge gold rush though out Australia , there was later a rebellion against mining licenses, the six colonies then began responsible governments to later join the commonwealth in 1901.

Basic information • Australia has a land mass of 1,617,930 squared km. • It’s also the world’s smallest continent but the sixth largest country. • The Great Barrier Reef is located on the shores of Queensland, its also known to be the world’s largest Coral reef. • Population: 22,170,607 • Life expectancy: 82 years of age • Government: Australia's government is made up of political parties, instead of a president there is a politician. At the moment the government party that is in charge is labor. • GDP per capita : $46,824 • TV stations: four • Military expenditure: 2.0 %

Australian flags • The Aboriginal flag has the red bottom layer for the red dirt of the out back, the yellow circle for the sun and the black top layer for their skin. • The Union Jack because it’s a commonwealth country and in the English dominion, the southern cross because it’s the Australian constellation.

  7. Life in Australia Life in Australia is very relaxed, the environment consist of friendly people, animals such as the rainbow lorikeets, koalas, magpies, cockatoos and blue tongue lizards. Most people head down to Glenelg ( one the main beaches ) on weekends, holidays. All schools there wear uniforms, whether its private or public. February is generally the hottest month of the year with December being also very warm. The roads are also different for example they drive on the left hand side of the road.
