  1. Welcome To Healthcare Science Mrs. Lee

  2. COURSE SYLLABUS • COURSE DESCRIPTION: Healthcare Science Technology Education programs are designed to provide students with competencies to facilitate a smooth transition from secondary education to entry-level career, postsecondary education, and lifelong learning.

  3. GRADING PLAN • Class Work 35% • Tests, Quizzes and Dress Days 40% • Group Projects 15% • Final Exam 10%

  4. Healthcare Science Books • One Class set-each numbered and assigned to you. You will sign for the book and be responsible for any damage at the end of the semester.

  5. REQUIRED MATERIALS • Three ring binder (only used for this class) • You are required to keep all work in a notebook. Your name, date, and assignment title should be labeled at the top right corner of the page. • Pen/Pencil • Section divider tabs (4) • Loose-Leaf notebook paper • Index cards

  6. Mandatory dress for success days This class will have mandatory dress for success days on the third Wednesday of every month. This grade will be averaged in with the test and quizzes. Appropriate attire will be: Uniforms Sunday dress DO NOT WEAR: Blue jeans, tennis shoes, half uniforms. If you have a personal problem with dress days please come see me on an individual basis.

  7. CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS • Entering the classroom: • Come in and sit quietly before the tardy bell rings • You should have all your materials ready for class (pencils sharpened) • Start on you “warm-up” assignment that will be on the board daily. • Mondays: write the medical terms for that week • Tardies: students not in class by when the tardy bell rings must report to the Tardy Table (first period) for a pass. Tardies to 2nd and 4th periods will result in automatic detention

  8. Announcements • Become quiet immediately; stop what you are doing, and listen for instructions. There will be NO talking during announcements.

  9. Lectures • For most chapters, you will take notes from the overhead, board, or other sources. • During lectures, do not get out of your seat. Take notes as quickly as possible. • I will randomly (without notice) grade your notes after taking them. This is an easy daily grade and all notes should be kept neatly.

  10. AGENDA BOOKS • You will have your agenda everyday. Parent communications through the agenda are to be brought to my desk at the start of class. • Hall passes in the agenda are required to leave the classroom. • You will be allowed 5 passes out of class per semester (these passes are only to the restroom or water fountain)

  11. AGENDA CON’T: • You will not be allowed to go to another teacher’s class without prior pass and I must approve you leaving the classroom • Being called to the office by an administrator or to check out of school does not count as one of the five passes VISITING THE VENDING MACHINES DURING CLASS TIME WILL BE AN AUTOMATIC OFFICE REFERRAL!! • ** points will be added to your final grade if NO hall passes are used all semester**

  12. If abusing the use of a hall pass…you must serve detention with Mrs. Lee at the time she designates. You will be given 3 days notice before the detention is to be served. If you do not serve a detention, an official office referral will be written.

  13. CLASSROOM RULES • -You are to abide by all rules set by the county, school and the teacher • No personal grooming (makeup, comb/brush, fingernail polish, etc.) is allowed in classroom. • No food is allowed in the classroom unless you can clean up after yourselves!!! ONE warning only!! • You must raise your hand to ask a question or to ask permission to leave your seat. You must sharpen pencils and at the beginning of class. • If I see a cell phone or other electronic (whether you are using it or not) it will be confiscated and a parent/guardian will have to pick it up from the front office and a referral will be written.

  14. TEST/QUIZZES • You will have a medical term quiz every Friday • If you miss class the day before an announced test, you are still required to take the test with the class. • If you miss class the day of the test, you are required to arrange a time to make it up. If you fail to take it within THREE DAYS, you will receive a ZERO.

  15. SAFETY PROCEDURES • Code Green (Fire Alarm) • In the event that the fire alarm sounds or hear Code Green the following should occur: • Immediately line up at the door near the beds • You should remain calm • You will exit the door and turn right and go down the stairs on the right. You will walk near the tennis courts out to the grass. You must be on the GRASS!!! • I will hold up a sign with my name on it. I will try to get close to the light pole.

  16. SAFETY PROCEDURES • Code Blue (bomb threat) • You will gather your belongings (purses, book bags, etc.) • You will line up at the door and exit to the right down the stairs to the baseball field. • You MUST stay with your class at all times • I will take roll

  17. SAFETY PROCEDURES CON’T: • Code Red (lock down) • Students will move and sit under the computers by the door. • You need to sit with your legs crossed. I am not worried about students being comfortable…I am worried about everyone’s safety • I will lock the door as the students are moving in position. • You CANNOT talk until you hear the announcement “CODE CLEAR”

SAFETY PROCEDURES CON’T: • Tornado • Warning: A tornado has been spotted • Watch: Conditions are favorable for one to develop • - Immediately line up at the door near the beds • -You should remain calm • -You will exit the door and turn right and go down the stairs to the first floor. • - We will sit up against the walls/lockers .

SAFETY PROCEDURES CON’T: • Code Yellow (Caution/Alert) • All outside doors will be locked • Students will NOT be allowed out of the classroom. • Teaching will resume in the classroom **IF YOU COME IN LATE (EVEN A FEW MINUTES) FROM A DRILL OUTSIDE, YOU WILL BE WRITTEN UP FOR SKIPPING!! There is no reason to wander away from your class.

  20. STUDENT ATTENDANCE • The following is considered an unexcused absent: • Out of town • Family matter • Family emergency • Vacation • Missed the bus • Car broken down/flat tire • Alarm clock didn’t go off

  21. STUDENT ATTENDANCE CON’T: • The following is considered an excused absent: • Personal illness • A serious illness or death in a student’s immediate family necessitating absence from school • A court order or an order by a governmental agency • Observing religious holidays

  22. STUDENT ATTENDANCE CON’T • Parent written notes are not accepted after ten absences. At that point the student must have a doctor’s note for every absence for the rest of the year. • If a student is out three consecutive days, then they are required to bring in a doctor’s note.

CHHS TARDY POLICY 6 unexcused tardies result: -Saturday work detail 10 unexcused tardies result: - Two days ISS - Loss of parking privileges for 45 days 15 unexcused tardies result: - Five day ISS - Parking privileges revoked for the rest of the school year 16 or more unexcused tardies: - One day ISS for each tardy from this point forward -Parent/student conference with school social worker -Administrator telephone call to parent - Possible behavior contract

ACADEMIC HONESTY • Morals and ethics are a critical part of the medical field. • Copying another student’s work and cheating on test or projects will result in an automatic zero. • Parents will be notified • Students are expected to follow all rules/regulations regarding academic honesty as listed in the Student Handbook.
