  2. Languages Taught • Fairfield offers Spanish starting in Year 7 and some pupils will start French in Year 8 • Year 7 are taught in mixed ability groups, some setting takes place in Years 8 & 9 and KS4

  4. Assessment • Assessment is conducted in both subjects through ongoing formative and summative assessment. This includes: • Vocabulary Tests • End of Unit Tests • End of Year Assessment • Mock exams in Years 10 & 11

  5. GCSE Assessment • Assessment is broken down into the four key skills, with the following weighting (from 2011): • Reading – 20% • Listening – 20% • Writing – 30% • Speaking – 30%

  10. Course Textbooks Continued • Spanish • Year 7,8 & 9 – Amigos 1, 2 & 3 – Pupils are provided with a textbook in class • Year 10 – Amigos 2 & 3 – Pupils are provided with a textbook • Year 11 - Listos 3 / OUP GCSE Spanish – Pupils are provided with a textbook

  11. Additional Resources • The department uses various materials in class including other textbooks, video, DVD, dictionaries and appropriate ICT. • Each classroom is equipped with up to date technology

  12. GCSE Results 2009 • French GCSE (OCR Exam Board): A*-C: 22 out of 25 candidates (88%) • Spanish GCSE (AQA Exam Board) A*-C: 21 out of 25 candidates (84%) • French GCSE Year 10 (OCR Exam Board): A*-C: 12 out of 12 candidates (100%)

  13. Extra-curricular activities • Fairfield runs a Spanish exchange in Year 11 with their partner school IES Pedro de Luna, in Zaragoza, Spain. For photos from the 2008 exchange, see http://www.fairfield.hereford.sch.uk/Zaragoza08 • Pupils are able to access extra reading materials that include signing up for Mary Glasgow magazine editions of “Bonjour” and “Ahora” to boost their language. Subscriptions are £5 a language and pupils will receive 6 copies of the magazine for each language

  14. Extra-curricular activities Continued • We regularly encourage pen pal exchanges • Spanish language assistant • Webcam meetings with school in Spain to develop speaking skills with native speakers • A new French exchange has taken place this October
